The Canberra Choral Society and the National Capital Orchestra are excited to continue their series of annual collaborations with the presentation of The Seasons by Franz Joseph Haydn.

Composed towards the end of Haydn’s prolific career in Vienna, this exhilarating secular oratorio features a Canberra-based cast of choral and orchestral musicians, and three excellent soloists, and will be sung in English.

Conducted by Louis Sharpe, with Chorus Master Dan Walker, the two organisations will come together on the Llewellyn Hall stage with soloists Sarahlouise Owens (Soprano), Ryan O’Donnell (Tenor) and Sitiveni Talei (Bass), and narration by Laura Tingle.

Christmas in Canberra means many things, but for singers and audiences alike it means Handel’s Messiah. CCS is joined by guest choristers and a professional orchestra to launch the silly season with a rousing performance of this crowd pleaser.

Dr Graeme Morton AM will conduct an orchestra of Canberra’s finest musicians with soloists Susannah Lawergren (Soprano), Stephanie Dillon (Mezzo Soprano), Andrew Goodwin (Tenor) and Andrew Fysh (Bass).

The concert features the CCS Massed Choir comprising of the Canberra Choral Society with another 90 singers who are joining us for this performance. Enabling the community to participate in fine music-making is something CCS does annually through its Come & Sing Program.

The large and enthusiastic combined group of choristers has been rediscovering the joy of singing the magnificent Messiah choruses. And now they would love to share them with the audience.

Canberra Choral Society celebrates their 70th anniversary with a concert featuring the world premiere of two exciting new works
by Australian composers Ella Macens and Michael Dooley, and accompanied by a 12 piece ensemble.

Attune by Ella Macens with lyrics by Sarah Rice, is an ode to the 'parts' of the choir from the ‘whole’ of the choir.

Songs from the High Country by Michael Dooley is an evocative work celebrating the natural diversity of the Canberra region.

Canberra Choral Society commissioned these works to commemorate this special occasion and to add to the choral repertoire. Both works, written for SATB choir and chamber ensemble, embrace the themes of renewal and celebration, and draw upon imagery from the natural world.

CCS also presents three of G.F. Handel's joyous Coronation Anthems -

Zadok the Priest, My Heart is Inditing and Let Thy Hand be Strengthened.
