St Matthew Passion

First performed on 11 April 1727, this masterpiece of sacred music tells the timeless story of the Passion of Christ from the perspective of the evangelist Matthew. In the beautiful St Christopher’s Cathedral in the lead up to Palm Sunday, also known as Passion Sunday, Saint Matthew’s message is again gifted to the world in this sublime setting by Bach.

Canberra Choral Society (CCS) has hand-picked soloists, orchestra and chorus members to perform the complete work, unabridged as Bach intended to bring glory to his God. These elements combine to provide a heavenly experience for lovers of the message and lovers of music alike.

POMP!

Canberra Choral Society and the Canberra City Band present a Last Night of the Proms-style event, featuring rising star soprano soloist, Livia Brash.

In true LNOTP-style, the program will feature much-loved party pieces as a showcase for both ensembles and our lovely soloist, however it will also include an Antipodean element as part of a very entertaining and eclectic program.

A special Proms afternoon tea will be available, as well as some extra entertainment including our team of Prommers!
