Elijah

Saturday 30 November, 7.30pm

Llewellyn Hall, ANU

The Canberra Choral Society (CCS) is excited to present Elijah, Felix Mendelssohn’s magnificent Biblical masterpiece, in Llewellyn Hall, The Australian National University, at 7.30pm on Saturday 30 November 2024. This much anticipated event is part of our annual Come and Sing programme and completes our successful 2024 concert year.

CCS has assembled impressive forces for this stunning Oratorio which reflects the influences of Handel and Bach and is rarely performed in Canberra. Starring the internationally acclaimed operatic Bass Teddy Tahu Rhodes in the title role, together with soloists from the National Opera in Canberra, Soprano Sonia Anfiloff, Mezzo Soprano Christina Wilson, and Tenor Damian Arnold. Joining them on stage will be CCS’s 70-strong choir, augmented by 100 ‘Come and Sing’ choristers from the Canberra community, and a 42-piece orchestra sourced from Canberra’s finest players.

Directing these substantial forces will be one of Australia’s leading choral conductors, the dynamic Brett Weymark OAM, Artistic and Music Director of Sydney Philharmonia Choirs.

Our Come & Sing program returns with a major choral work, Mendelssohn's Elijah - a magnificent biblical masterpiece. This is a dramatic and riveting tale of a drought and floods brought on by a man who seeks to show his nation that there is one God, who must be obeyed.

This performance will include our Come & Sing choristers.
