Schütz’s sublime Christmas Story – 3 December

Canberra Choral Society presents Schütz's Christmas Story with Rutter's Gloria and three 17th century Christmas MotetsA masterpiece from a time before JS Bach, forged in the Reformation and the Thirty Years War – Heinrich Schütz’s sublime setting of the Nativity, his Christmas Story, is the centerpiece of Canberra Choral Society’s performance at Llewellyn Hall on December 3, 2016, which will also feature the modern choral mastery of Rutter’s Gloria plus three 17th century Christmas Motets.

“Schütz’s angels rejoice with a music that seems to spiral through itself, with individual voices emerging from the joint rapture: these incorporeal beings not only fly but, still more exuberantly, dance.” (David Yearsley)

“Rutter has a knack of writing choral music that shows off voices to their best advantage.…music of exhilarating impact.” (The Telegraph, UK)
