For the first time ever in Australia – Handel’s Alexander Balus

King Ptolemy of Egypt is prepared to use everything, even his daughter Cleopatra,
to remove Alexander Balus from the Syrian throne.
Love, friendship and loyalty will be put to the test!

7.30pm Saturday 20 September
Canberra Playhouse

Over 260 years after its premiere in London, CCS is proud to present the first ever performance of Handel’s Alexander Balus in Australia. Like our sellout performance of Handel’s Theodora in 2013, the music will be performed on period instruments, and conducted by Handel specialist Brett Weymark. It forms part of the ambitious, long-term challenge set by Artistic Director Tobias Cole to perform all of Handel’s dramatic oratorios.

A star-studded cast has been assembled to do justice to Handel’s work, featuring Tobias Cole, Jacqueline Porter and Christopher Saunders, with Christopher Richardson, Christina Wilson, the CCS Chorus and the CCS Orchestra.

Tickets are available through Canberra Ticketing (and are already selling fast!).
