SWING into Albert Hall for a night of 1940s Singing & Dancing

Buy tickets through Canberra TicketingGet ready to shake the rafters of Canberra’s original event venue at the Albert Hall 1940s Dance, presented by CCS at 7.30pm Saturday 5 October 2013

We are thrilled that Canberra’s premier Big Band, Blamey Street Big Band, are honing their incomparable skills to bring us the best music of the era.  Director Ian McLean has chosen a playlist of favourites including the lively Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, the romantic Begin the Beguine, the iconic In the Mood, the smooth Girl from Ipanema, the sexy Fever, and the frantic It don’t mean a thing (if it ain’t got that SWING).

The printed program includes words for some of the songs so you can sing along with guest vocalist Annette Sloane, and the CCS Artistic Director Tobias Cole will lead us all in a bracket of songs to make sure that everyone gets into that 1940s groove!

The Albert Hall parquetry floor is perfect for Dancing and we expect it to fill with enthusiastic dancers doing the Rumba, Foxtrot, Quickstep, and of course every interpretation of Swing dancing that our patrons can come up with… expect variations ranging from Lindy Hop to Collegiate Shag!!  Marko of Danzón Dance Studio  has been teaching some keen participants the basics of the 1940s dance styles and may still have some space in the last few Friday evening classes.  If you want to polish your moves a little, give Marko a call on 6257 5891 and see if he can fit you in …. he will also run a complimentary refresher class from 7pm just before the event starts for those who want to arrive early.

This is an opportunity to hunt in the back of your wardrobe and dress up for the dance … Any chaps with a Zoot Suit hanging around waiting for an outing?  Of course the 1940s was a time of war-rationing and make-do so whatever you can find will be perfect.

1930s Soiree from the balcony

The bar will be open from 7pm with a range of favourites, and we will be serving a supper of tasty treats during the course of the evening.  If you need a break from the dancing, you will be able to relax on the balcony taking in the spectacle – as in this photo taken at our popular CCS 1930s Soirée last year – or step outside into the Spring evening air to cool down.

In order to ensure that everyone can comfortably fit, numbers will be limited so get your friends together and jump in early to buy your tickets.  Tickets are available through Canberra Ticketing.  Full price $49, Concession (includes Seniors) $39.

See you there!!
