The Magic of Creation

In the world of classical music Christmas often means Messiah … but this year the Canberra Choral Society is going alternative with the oratorio inspired by Messiah: Haydn’s Creation.

It’s a work exploring the magic, mystery and majesty of the creation of the world. Entrancing arias, grand choruses and colourful orchestration made it a hit on day one (1798!) and it has never waned in popularity.

Guest conductor Graham Abbott – well known presenter of Keys to Music on ABC Classic FM – will be weaving his spell over a massed choir of 200 voices, a full symphony orchestra, and soprano Lorina Gore (a principal artist with Opera Australia), tenor Christopher Saunders and bass baritone Christopher Richardson.

We’ll be singing in English (as Haydn would have wanted), so you’ll be able to fully appreciate how Creation really is, in the words of CCS Musical Director Tobias Cole, “simply joy in song”!

Do join us at 7.30pm Saturday 1 December at Llewellyn Hall for what promises to be a mesmerising evening.

Tickets are being sold through Ticketek at http://premier.ticketek.com.au/shows/show.aspx?sh=HAYDNSCR12.
