Choral Music from North America – it really is luscious!

WE are still on a high after our The Best Choral Music Ever Written by a North American concerts on 15 & 16 September

Canberra Choral Society with David Yardley

THE setting was perfect, the music glorious, and our fellow musicians uplifting. Audience members reported that they really were moved to tears by Aaron Copland’s In the Beginning. We also had great feedback on the variety of the program, which included the pure and timeless beauty of a traditional Cherokee song, the African-American spiritual Deep River, the 17th century Mexican polyphony of Francisco Lopez Capillas, the purity (and puritanism) of William Billings, the heartbreaking beauty of Samuel Barber’s Agnus Dei, a roller coaster ride with Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms, and the dissonant and mystical Water Night by Eric Whitacre.

OUR thanks to wonderful guest conductor David Yardley, soloists Christina Wilson and Cameron Gill,  Kompactus youth choir, and the musicians of the CCS Ensemble.

See you at Haydn’s Creation on 1 December!
