Come sing Messiah – subscriptions will close early

We are delighted to have had such a strong response to our invitation to join CCS to sing Messiah. The stage of Llewellyn Hall has a finite capacity, and we regret that we are almost to the point where further applications can not be accepted. This contingency was not anticipated, and the available places will fill before the advertised cut-off date. We are sure that those disappointed this year will understand our dilemma, and consider joining us for “come sing … ” next year. Meanwhile, please phone Gail on 6231 8247 (or email her on gailford@bigpond.net.au ) to determine if there are any places left, or to join our wait-list.

JOIN CCS to sing MESSIAH in December 2011

This is an opportunity to take part in a memorable musical event – singing Handel’s magnificent Messiah under the Baton of Brett Weymark of Sydney Philharmonia Choirs.

The performance will be in Llewellyn Hall, Saturday 17 December with full orchestra and soloists Anna Fraser, Fiona Campbell, Michael Martin and Jeremy Tatchell.

You may choose to sing the entire work, rehearsing for 6 weeks, or elect to sing selected favourite choruses with an intensive week of rehearsals only. Further details can be found here.

Winter News | July 2011

We hope that the frosty Canberra winter is treating you well. If you were lucky enough to see the first snowfalls on the Brindabellas, it was a real treat.

The recent protest sing at the Fitters Workshop in Kingston was covered by local news – footage is available online at ABC Canberra, and an earlier story can be viewed here.

The Canberra Choral Society is preparing for a recording project in August.

And on 24 and 25 September, we will present a concert of the best German and Austrian choral music, selected and conducted by Tobias Cole.

Highlights will include a chorale from Bach’s St Matthew Passion, O Fortuna from Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, and Agnus Dei from Mozart’s Coronation Mass in C.

We look forward to seeing you in the Spring thaw, and please get in touch if you would like to sing or support the Canberra Choral Society.
